all the news that’s fit to print.

This post is going to be a mish-mash of general stuff because I still am in Procrastination Station and am having a hard time working off the To-Do list. I figure hey, I’ll write a little update post and then I’ll have no other reason to NOT do the things that will keep me up until 3am. Ever since I went tango dancing last weekend, I’m listening to all of my tango music again and getting quite distracted.

So:

  • Woke up at THE absolute CRACK of dawn (or at least it felt like that) to attend one of those breakfast BNI meetings as a guest of my friend Tommy. Nice people, undercooked bacon, but seems like a good place to network. I’ll try to go back to another meeting and get more of an impression. The funniest thing of all is that I forgot how to set my alarm clock (yes, it’s been that long since I’ve had to do that) but thanks to someone on Twitter, I found this site: http://wakerupper.com/ which calls your phone and wakes you up. (Yes, I guess I could learn how to just set my phone to do that but that concept was out of my reach last night.)
  • Am writing interviews for CALIBER (which if you didn’t realize, we run every week). I’m really proud of the contacts I’ve made and the interview with SF photographer Michael Mullady (warning: his photo is graphic) that was posted. I think his work as a photojournalist is extremely eye-opening and a great piece for CALIBER and I’m really happy to give exposure to this very talented local photographer.
  • Edited photos, including the one above, from a gallery opening I went to last week. I don’t know who this guy is, but I like the photo. I went to the show to check out the space because I am going to submit my application to show i live here:SF in a “real” gallery since it’s almost one year old, and it’s time for a show. Or at least think about having one and see if someone else will let me exhibit.
  • Went to Mini Bar on Divisadero today to meet with the owner. I’m going to be showing some new photos and some old favorites there at the next group show which happens to open on the night of the Divisadero Art Walk, which sounds hugely fun and very lively. The wall where I’ll be showing is pretty huge (about 12′!) so I can really fill it up! I’m excited about that.
  • Got invited to talk to a class at SFSU (!!) about photography and my projects. I mean, like stand in front of a class and talk! What the hell happened to me?! I am excited about that too but now I have homework. I can’t just wing it. I’m thinking of creating a Keynote presentation because I love Keynote and then I’ll feel fancy with a presentation that’s animated and stuff.
  • Am happy to be seeing my adorable poetess Silvi and our photography/poetry collaborations up on the wall tomorrow night at Secession Gallery in the Mission. We just have two pieces but they’re really lovely and you should stop by and see us, or them, and get a poem.
  • Doing a Valentine’s Day present/photo shoot with a very special guy and his lady in the Marina. Awwww. ;-) Makes me almost wish I was a Valentine-y type person.
  • And lastly but not leastly, i live here:SF got this super-fantastic-bubble-plastic writeup in the KQED online magazine, which I am just enamored with. The writer actually read my entire site and wrote a wonderful piece called “Making Sense of SF.” Check it out here.

I should really turn this tango music off. I can’t think. All I want to do is dance!

xoxo

That’s so great to hear about all the exciting stuff you have going on lately! I’m a huge fan of your work! Can anyone go to the Mini Bar on Divisadero for the next group show? I would love to go. Date/time?

Yes, Casi, I’ll post the details when I get them but you should definitely come and bring your friends. From what I hear, this art walk is really a great time with lots of art (natch) and lots of yummy food and drink, too.

Louis… don’t say that! I’m bad enough just having my photo taken. A video would kill me! But thank you for the enthusiasm. I’ll write a recap. Promise

–Julie, you are a rock and roll star…
–Super to hear that they’re giving you a good amount of space for your next showing — keep us posted…
–And yup, I agree that you got a really great write-up on the KQED thing, but I’m not surprised, after all they were writing about Julie, and I bet you got such a good write-up because the writer really enjoyed the task…
–And I would have never guessed that you weren’t into Valentines — either am I, but I’m going to make an exception for my buddy Julie; “SWAK” (((consider yourself Valentined)))
